Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a ‘Senior Consultant’ to join an expanding Safety, Environmental and Risk Management Consultancy.

With clients in the defence, nuclear, transport and chemical industry the Company has offices in Manchester (Head Office), Glasgow and Reading.

The Company has developed an excellent reputation of being one of the leaders in its sector delivering cost effective solutions by liaising closely with clients, to fully understand their requirements.  Services range from full project management as part of an integrated project team through to detailed assessment and consultancy advice.

Role and Responsibilities:

As a ‘Senior Consultant’ you will be responsible for the following:

  • Technical and financial responsibility for the successful delivery of proposals and projects.
  • Supporting business development to assist in the growth of the company.
  • Providing mentoring to more junior staff.


Experience:

The role is for a ‘Senior Consultant’ with over 5 years experience and proven track record in the nuclear industry and more specifically providing the technical lead in delivering safety cases and supporting safety justification documentation.

The right candidate will have experience of successfully producing nuclear safety cases in accordance with the requirements of client’s safety case methodologies and processes such as HAZOP, HAZAN, PSA, ALARP, Reliability Assessments.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

The ideal candidate would have degree in an engineering or science based subject, be a full member of an appropriate institution (e.g. IMechE, IChemE, etc) and have or be working towards Chartered or Incorporated status.

Benefits:

The successful candidate will receive a highly competitive salary, 25 days holiday per year (plus statutory holidays) with 1 additional day for each full year of service up to a maximum of 30 days.  As a ‘Senior Consultant’ you will be eligible to join the company’s stakeholder pension scheme for which the company will contribute 3% rising to 10% and receive a company mobile phone.

The role is for a ‘PSA Consultant’ includes:

  • Responsible to line manager.
  • Undertake work in accordance with Work Instruction Form.
  • Complete objectives as set in Performance Appraisal.

Experience:

Candidates should have at least 2 years experience as a safety consultant working within a high hazard industry. They should be able to demonstrate experience in Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA), including the development of fault trees and event tress and preferably the use of FaultTree + or similar software.

In addition experience in some of the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Availability / Reliability /Maintainability Assessment
  • Hazard / Fault Identification (HAZOP, FMEA etc)
  • Safety case preparation
  • ALARP Assessment
  • Project Management

The role is for a Principal Consultant with experience in the nuclear industry and more specifically managing safety cases at Sellafield.   As a ‘Principal Consultant’ and a senior member of the IJS Consultants management team, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Technical and financial responsibility for the successful delivery of complex proposals and projects.
  • Detailed knowledge and responsibility for managing one or more key clients and/or a business areas.
  • Business development to assist in the growth of the company.
  • Line manager to more junior members of staff, providing mentoring and undertaking performance reviews.
  • Meeting key targets set by the Directors and senior management team.
  • If applicable, open and manage a new office in Cumbria.

Experience:

The specific role is for a ‘Principal Consultant’ with in excess of 8 years experience and a sound track record in the production and management of complex nuclear safety cases.  Specific experience in the production and management of safety cases at Sellafield would be an advantage.
The right candidate will need to support clients to help them meet their work programme commitments.  This includes managing client’s expectations against the needs of the business.  The successful candidate must also be technically proficient in applying client’s safety case methodologies and processes such as HAZOP, HAZAN, PSA, ALARP, Reliability Assessments.
